Reward is offered for tips on mail theft in Blackwood

Postal inspectors investigating the theft of mail last week from a truck at the Blackwood post office are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thief.

Several pouches of mail were taken about 6:10 p.m. Thursday while the truck, owned by a contracted driver, was parked behind the Davistown Road facility. Officials characterized the amount of mail as small but could not give an exact number.

Postal inspectors and Gloucester Township police found four empty canvas mail pouches nearby. They want to question the driver of a 1994-98 green Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Marquis seen in the area at the time. Anyone with information can call 201-714-6300.-

I am certain that the Inspection Service will find the thief who robbed the truck carrying the mail. The only thing I hope is that the Inspection Service questions the Truck Driver, like they question the postal workers until they obtain the necessary information. I also know that the questioning will not stop with the truck driver, but will question all the workers on duty. This could also be an inside job, like the one that took place in 1975 when the Times Square Post Office was robbed on a sunday, transporting mail for the usual monday delivery. Someone had to tip off the thiefs to the time the truck arrived at the post office, & what bags to take. Nothing else was taken.
GOOD LUCK TO THE INSPECTION SERVICE.
