Hey Potter wake up. You say you want to be competitive so the first thing you should do is fire half of your uneducated slug management that has been faking your numbers, mismanaging and sucking the profits out of the Postal Service. Close down your unprofitable Post Offices and fire these slug Postmasters who do nothing after the morning mail is up. You can also go to a 5 day week and fire thousands of city carriers. But remember when you start making the big money after all this is done, good old BUSH will steal it for his bankrupt budget.
I love these people that make accusations with no proof. Five years of record service, five years of record satisfaction, stable rates for years, three recent articles that ran nationwide (including the NY Times) that tested products mailed and USPS beat all competitors, and yet people still complain. Have some cheese with that whine....Congratulations to all employees on a wonderful year. Happy Holidays to all.
I welcome the opportunity to concur with the second poster who cites true facts (rather than bitter undigested rancor) to support the tremendous success the USPS has and continues to achieve.
Furthermore, gracias applause and gratitude is due our PMG who has taken this organization into the 21st century with skill and grace. We now compete nationally and globally with any delivery company in existence. Our service availability to our customers, beyond traditional bricks and mortar, is unmatched.
I believe the exceptional guidance from management has had a tremendous affect on our success too. The employees of this great institution can be gratified to know they are being led by thinkers and doers. God Bless the USPS, our PMG and George W. Bush.
Anonymous at 8:15 am is the problem with the USPS. Obviously a very low IQ union member cretin, who listens to the union leaders. As long as the USPS keeps low-lifes like this employed, it can never be totally successful. Potter's doing everything he and his staff can to keep the USPS running efficiently, but people like this poster are so dumb they just can't see beyond their blurred eyeballs. What an idiot!
just a note..., our office is delivering significantly fewer parcels this season. Has any other carrier noticed that one of our competitors is now renting small moving vans with a magnetic sign under the driver's window, in addition to thier usual fleet of vehicles ?
I would like to congradulate PMG Potter for the decent job he is doing. The problem is with the STUPIDITY OF THE SO CALLED MANAGERSwho refuse to listen to the carriers who have beenon the same route for many years. This is what is happening in the CENTRAL JERSEY PERFOR- MANCE CLUSTERS. In my office, we have line managers who make the dummest comments in which they HARASS the carrier. They are after the SENIOR CARRIERS,who do not want to retire, but they are writing management up for HARASSMENT & AGE DISCRIMINATION. The comments are YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRINK WATER, or YOU CAN MOVE FASTER. We have a manager called "EL FATSO" who comes from New York, & by reading the DOIS numbers, that he puts into the computer, he knows everything, but he has been shot down as the computer does not compute the workers age & that is what is missing.
To those "cheerleaders" who seem to think that the USPS is the greatest thing since puffed rice, please take a reality pill. Your company is spiraling into oblivion. Your bread and butter product which is responsible for over 60% of your revenue and volume is disappearing. You have an infrastructure which can process much more volume than you have in your system. And you have the audacity to stand up an cheer "95% on time!". Give me a break!
Party's over next year, Postal People. You will raise rates dramatically, probably on the order of 5 or 6 cents for 1st class. Other classes will see significant increases, which will further deter people from mailing.
And in the midst of this, your overpaid "managers" will bank their bonuses, paid for by ratepayers. Wake up to reality people - you will never be profitable as long as you deliver to EVERY household and EVERY address in the country. IF this endeavor made money, don't you think UPS or FedEx would have made a move?
Such is the nature of Universal Service. It has NEVER been profitable. It NEVER will be profitable. Deal with it.
Once again, every house every day is the nature of universal SERVICE.Fed Ex and ups don't do that because they are NOT a SERVICE!!!!!!! No it may not always be profitable to go everywhere but we are not allowed BY LAW to operate FOR PROFIT.We are a universal SERVICE to the people that is just supposed to operate to break even. How many times must this be said BS?Jeez!!!!!!!
Get rid of 6 day Delivery once and for all. Nobody cares. Our Biggest Expense is salary. Its harsh to say but lay off about 150,000 thousand clerks/mailhandlers/carriers/EAS employees/POOMs/etc etc.....Savings on that alone would hold Postage steady for the next 20 years at least. Maybe even lower the stamp by a penny. Savings on Gasoline would be hugh. Business's closed so they dont care. Have Express mail delivery only Sat and Sun. End the madness...
3:42 it's called universal service your union endorses it so as not to lose a days pay for it's employees plus the lay off of PTF carriers and what do you do with the carrier technicians? You sound like a real union member that thinks of nothing but yourself in wanting Sat's off as a non-scheduled day, you knew what the job schedule was when you became an employee.
5 day delivery would be fairly easy, I doubt that anybody would be out of a job. You would compact 6 days of mail into 5 days, more mail equals shorter routes, so there would have to be more routes. We are already short of carriers so I don't think there would be an excess there either. We would save fuel costs and think of the increase in morale and how many less sick days might be used if people could get thier NS day off and have weekends like normal people. It's a win-win situation. Express and priority only on weekends.

Extreme poles are represented by all of the posters above. What is the real truth? Probably a mix of both.

Hey 7:08
Just because you are "mandated" to serve all doesn't mean that we all have to be served by self-serving idiots!!
Hey Toejammer, I doubt much goes on around the table when he is the only one there, lol!

65% parcel ground shipments go via UPS; 16% go USPS; 13% go FedEx. For expedited shipments, 50% via UPS; 34% FedEx; 10% USPS.
