Why is everyone afraid to address the real issues with the postal service. The unions control this company, and they will continue to drive up cost with poor performance and roadblock every attempt the service tries to make change. then there is OWCP cost, what company in their right mind keeps an employee on the payroll at full salary, and then hires another person at full salary to do the job of the injured employee. (im not saying we dont need to care for our own injured, but we do need to find them full employment) the NALC recently did not get their way in a proposed change to carrier route adjustments, and their response from the highest levels of their union, were not going to let them get away with this, FILE MORE GRIEVANCES., our labor cost and EEO cost are totally out of control. we have arbritrators making business decisions for a company that is sinking.
just look at the private sector, what are unions doing for their companies now. to survive they are taking major pay cuts and reducing their benefit packages, in hopes that their company will survive. but not the postal unions, they want MORE .
WHY WONT THE U.S. GOVERMENT ELECTED OFFICIALS STAND-UP??
We are the best at what we do, but to survive, we also need to be the best at understanding our problems and correcting them. stop talking and lets see some reform that will mean something.
When is anyone going to admit that the WORKERS MOVE THE MAIL. More manegement will NOT move more mail. The focus on capturing undertime from workers has well crossed over the line of ridiculousness. You can't necessarily build a better mouse trap by making it more complicated. You do not need to give a manager a bonus to make a worker work efficiently. If workers love their job they will give it their best most of the time. A very simple concept. The Best insentive to worker productivity is to encourage the easiest way to accomplish a goal.
more bush less reform..this president is not going to give the usps any type of postal reform...BUSH needs that money and eventually your csrs to fund the iraqi project blood for oil...
It's time the nalc and the apwu open their eyes to all the phonies that they have workoing in the postal service all the stiff carriers who milk their routes and the clerks and mailhandelers who are lazy thats why this company will go down
We in the APWU and NALC realize that there are not only dirtbags in management, there are those who are also in the crafts and who make all of us look bad because of them. However, we are bound by the labor department to represent all no matter what their union status, work attitude or work ethic. We are not allowed to pick and choose. I will say that when management has followed each step of the contract in discipline, usually it has been upheld by arbitrators. Usually management, is lax in their discipline issuance and their paperwork. I have found that over time, sometimes years, the dirtbags go away, either quit or fired. Seldom do they reach retirement, although sometimes they get into management.
My fellow Postal workers, here we go again. We talk about reforming the U.S.Postal Service and we talk and talk and talk until we are blue on the face. Everyone points out a problem here and a problem there for the difficulties that we experienced for the longest time. We talk about it and nothing ever changes. Why is that? We need to understand that the U.S. Postal Service is a goverment agency and run by people that do not believe in competition as it is in the private sector. The U.S. Postal Service is run the way the Liberal Democrats have designed it. Affirmative action is used to create positions for certain individuals in management based on the color of their skin rather than the content of their brains. Have you taken a good look at the present management at your local P.O. lately? You no doubt see a bunch of individuals that are in management that would never be qualified to manage in any of the private sector because their lack of qualificiations. The other problem is the unions. Do you ever wondered why is it that most of your unions are in the government jobs and very few in the private sector? Government unions are nothing more than a bunch os socialits that are only concerned to get as much as they can for workers that are totally incompetent and do not deserve to have their jobs and should not receive any pay raises at all. The only solution is to go Private, before it is too late. Our time is running out.
Very Good Post 12:35........I still say get rid of Saturday Delivery. Business would not be hurt because they are closed. UPS and FED EX dont work on Saturday and thier Companies seem to be doing very well. We could lay off as harsh as it sounds close to 150,000 Clerks, Mailhandlers,City Carriers,Rural Carriers, Supervisors,EAS Support, Managers ,etc etc etc. The savings in salaries and gasoline alone would get us to hold the postage rate steady for the next 20 YEARS ! THAT IS THE CORRECT POSTAL REFORM

Gee, cut health benefits for the workers, and give the executives more pay. Where have I seen this before? Truly a plan for success!
