I hope that Jack Potter reads this article & tells the local postmaster to make additional collection pick-ups from the outside mailbox. What the couple did in notifuing the authorities was a smart idea, which led to the capture of the crook. Our mailboxes need to be emptied several times during the day when our patrons use the boxes in front of the building. If that were to happen, very few people would try to steal the mail & do what this THIEF did. The service needs more collectors on the street, especially in the business districts, of every major city.
Extra collections is not the way the post office does business these days with the cutbacks etc and elimination of collection boxes. Suggest paying bills online and saving the postage. That way bills will get paid on time. My letter carrier retired just before Christmas in 2004. Temps, subs, or whatever they call them delivered our mail to a vacant house next door. I thought how unusual it was NOT to hear from friends in the US or the United Kingdom. Well it turns out that all our mail was delivered to the vacant house that has a mail drop through the door. Several bills would not have been paid on time but I have bills debited from my checking account. It is sad that our Postal Service which was once the envy of the world has gone down the LOO. It is time to privatise it and more cost effective to use Bush guest workers deliver the mail for 3 bucks an hour.
Same situation at Hoffman Heights Post Office in the Hoffman Heights Shopping Center in Aurora Colorado. This shopping center has become a haven for Bush guest workers, translates into illegals, and one can pretty much grab what mail they want before stopping at Zapata's Mexican Grill and Bar. How do you think they can drive 30,000 to 40,000 dollar pickup trucks. Comprende?
Funny, Keehn doesn't sound like a spanish surname to me. To characterize Hispanic people as thieves just because they are driving around in the same overpriced trucks that every other bozo wastes their money on is racist. Why don't you just post your true feelings: You are a bigot and everyone who doesn't look like you or talk like you scares you.

This is nothing new and you all know it. Southern Ca. has had this happen quite a bit. Either by blocking the chute or by sticky paper attached to string shoved down the chute. Postal Patrons should bring the mail into a lobby drop if they are worried about it. Extra collection would just mean less mail to steal. Duh, it still gets stolen.

The collection boxes at the Richfield MN post office full most weekends. Anyone could reach in the box and grab mail.
