Backlog at border delaying international mail: Canada Post

"As many as 150,000 packages – about 45 tractor-trailer loads – are waiting to clear customs at the Vancouver processing plant. Post office officials say they understand the need for tight security, but say a five week delay is just too much."

I do believe in security, but what the CANADIAN POSTAL SYSTEM is doing has me baffled. The delay of the inbound mail or cargo is wrong & will hurt the businesses that depend on these packages for their survival. I do believe that CANADA POST needs to hire more people or is it the CANADIAN CUSTOMS that has to hire more people for the job inspecting the inbound mail or packages. LET'S GO CANADA.

"At 9:35 AM, Anonymous said... " You're an idiot. How many times do you have to post the same message?

What is the point of this "sercuity check" anyway since you can send packages from the US to Canada with an express courier and it doesn't even go through customs. Why go through all the trouble of checking normal mail since, if somebody really wanted to send something illegal, they could just send it express courier and it would totally bypass any customs checks. The interesting part about the express courier option is you will still get billed for any taxes or duty on the package, in the form of an invoice in the mail. So my opinion is, either do it properly and check all packages (or at least pretend your checking all packages) or don't do it at all and aviod the delays.
