PRC OKs Priority Mail Flat-Rate Box Test

The Postal Rate Commission approved the U.S. Postal Service's proposal for a two-year experiment to test two flat-rate Priority Mail boxes. The rate for the boxes is $7.70, regardless of package weight and destination. The USPS chose the rate for customer convenience: Two Priority Mail $3.85 stamps will cover the postage exactly, with no need to look up zone charts or weigh the parcel. Consumers or businesses, however, can put any type of stamps or meter strips on the boxes.

Great, I always wanted to send my Uncle Bubba that 455 Buick Wildcat engine of mine he always has been admiring. He works in a cement factory and he can send some here, and a couple runs of field tile too. For $7.70, what a bargain!!!!!!!!

I would like to know who comes up with this nonsense. Obviously this is some attempt at stealing business from private courriers by making a "rollback" on zone charges on priority mail. Ok, that makes sense, but heres the idiotic part: The USPS is losing volume and they decide to give away more money with another gimmick that ultimately gives away money. Second: You have to have some special box for this, and these boxes are the 32# ECT el cheapo boxes that wont hold the bricks the Ebayers will stuff in these things, since its those postalfans that will use this the most. Well, no worries of accountability, since most people are too cheap for expensive USPS insurance, so they can be roughed up as much as possible.

Another Ebay-inspired brainchild that ultimately will be a forgotten program. Keep thinking up winners, USPS.

Get real. This nonsense will flop like everything else you do. Im just trying to see what the thinking is behind this stupidity. Well Fred Smith will see you in court again when you try to trumpet Priority mail as a 2day service again. Saves us in legal fees.

Well we shall see wont we? If this didn't have you worried you wouldn't be squawking so long and loud!

Not so. Its fun to tell it like it is. UPS is awash in cash and stealing your customers daily and programs like this show YOUR desperation, not ours. We hike up our rates and make more money and you people LOWER yours and still lose volume and revenue. We are hiring you are practicing attrition. We are OPENING facilities and UPS Stores, you are CLOSING facilities and Post Offices. Get the picture?

The flat rate boxes sound like a winner for consumers and small businesses who really want convenience.

Of course, the usual idiots will abuse the new $7.70 any weight Priority Mail, just like they now ship FedEx & UPS with free USPS Priority boxes.

For a business like mine it's pennies from heaven.
By maintaining fixed price shipping for customer convenience, We've been losing money on coast to coast Priority shipping for years. Many other businesses are in the same situation.

Even after the abuse by the 5% that are idiots, the new pricing will be widely accepted by business and sane personal shippers alike.
2 day coast to coast $7.70 shipping beats UPS and FedEX hands down. The only drawbacks of shipping USPS is the ripoff insurance rates and the waiting in line if you need proof of shipment or insurance over $200.00.

I like the new $7.70 rate. Our first $7.70 packages will go out November 20th.

Rate reductions are an uncommon occurance -- THANK YOU USPS!.

I thought it was a great price at $7.70 and I got about 20 lbs into them. But priority its NOT, because it has taken 5 days to get from Oklahoma to Texas!!!
