According to the Postcom.org web site, "Word has it that the Administration has told the House government reform committee chairman that it would strongly oppose his postal reform bill -- that it does not provide enough reform to justify the budget cost."
Postcom has also posted this suggested letter for mailers to send to Congress, with the admonition: "Unless Congress acts quickly to prevent it, the stage will soon be set for the Postal Service to propose and pass on to postal ratepayers one the most needless and punishing postal rate increases in American postal history. It's time to act. The business you save could be your own."

Is it not surprising that the administration will reject any postal reform bills considering how all the postal unions tell their members to back the Kerry-Edwards ticket. The unions should work with both parties so that whoever occupies the White House will be sympathic to workers' issues.
Bring on that rate hike! More packages for UPS!
Even with a rate hike we will still be half the price as UPS.
Yeah right, the Republcans are union friendly. Look what it got for the mighty Teamsters. Mr. Hoffa endorsed GW in 2000. The Democrats get my vote. They are friendly not only to unions, they are friendly to the common middle class people. Under Bush we will get to pay until we are in the poorhouse!
why should a conservative administration do anything for an overregulated giant that has a monopoly on personal messages?
USPS should be creative for once and propose repeal of postal monopoly
and turning over its delivery functions to private contractors who may or may not be unionized. The recent "study" commission report upon which the legislation is based is just the tired old "universal service" socialism approached married to mandatory union shops. An eternal plan for failure in a competitive field like communications!
After the GOP sweep in November, USPS and its pampered "postal community" allies will have to face the reality of market solutions to government monopoly-caused problems. Perhaps we can outsource USPS to the Chinese government
So Your saying Ben Franklin was a socialist? What does that make dubba-ya. By the way what the heck is a dubba-ya
Once the Republicans get in, there goes your collective
bargining rights...We will all be working for min wage, not just the USPS but ALL of America. Big Business and the almighty $ will control D.C.(like they don't already) and all the votes. The Middle Class will be gone and only the rich will be able to afford the basic things in Life!!!
Yep, I remember like it was yesterday, only it was thirty yrs ago! The same holier than tho talk. The same my union will back me. The same, 'they can't screw with us!' Then Ta daaaaaa, no ,more frigin rubber companies. Its over and so will the USPS unless they gut the unions!!!!!!!!!
President Bush is trying to be another Ronald Reagan, but will not succede. He wants the postal service to pay for the military while these workers are employed by the postal service. Now that we know what the George W. has announced his plan to veto the postal reform bill, we need to make everyone aware of what the president will do. HE MUST BE STOPPED.
My man Bush. Ignore the USPS. Raise them rates! Sell the package division to UPS! You have my vote GW! We have our union under control, so please get the rabble at the USPS under control. Their labor costs are out of control. Its time to cut their pay and benifits, since they cant make any money. Either that or raise the rates. RAISE THE RATES!
same old blather from bs
